Russia’s Alrosa (MCX:ALRS), the world's top diamond producer by output in carats, said Wednesday it has recovered a 214.65-carat rough diamond from its Nyurbinskoye placer deposit.
The crystal measures 42.11 by 34.26 by 16.07 mm, and is translucent with a grey hue, Alrosa said.
Traces of dissolution – tetragonal cavities, etching channels and caverns – are observed on the surface.
The Nyurbinskoye deposit is located close to the Nyurbinskaya pipe primary deposit, a known source of big diamonds, which is run by the Nyurba Mining and Processing Division, one of Alrosa’s youngest units.
Russia’s government completed this week the sale of a 10.9% stake in the diamond miner. It was the biggest divestment of a state asset since the government reduced its stake in the diamond producer almost three years ago.
