The world's largest miner, BHP Billiton, said today that its year end profits jumped 37% to $3.7 billion.
The mining giant said it achieved annual production records at nine operations across iron ore, coal, copper and petroleum.
BHP's Escondida was a stand out leaping from 772kt production in 2017 to 1,213 in 2018.
The Samarco dam failure was recorded as an exceptional lost of US$650 million.
